I got a free dinner offer in my email from Trece in Uptown so I made reservations for two. The ambience was Uptown "cheap-nice" meaning it looks like it's nice, but everything is actually cheaply made in terms of furniture and table mats etc. But still, the lighting made it all... doesn't it usually? The dinner room is packed on a Monday and we wonder if it's because of the free offer. There was a fixed menu and we could order an appetizer and an entree each. I don't remember the fancy names of the appetizers, but we got chicken enchiladas and chicken tacos I think. Both were lacking in flavour. I thought the tangy/sweet salsa was a different approach, but Miggity thought it was lame. For our main dish we ordered the Vegetarian Chille Relleno (stuffed with spinach) and Fish Tacos. I liked the creativity of the stuffed relleno because it's spinach instead of the usual beef or cheese. Plus it had a really well fried crust that really did it for me. Miggity's fish tacos were more like Gordon's fish sticks stuffed poorly in some Tia Rosa tortillas. We also ordered dessert- flan and a chocolate whoppie pie like something something. The flan was probably the best part of the meal. The whoopie pie thing left me speechless (not in a good or bad way, in a clueless way). The service was slow and all in all, the food was gringo-ized bad Mexican. They gave us two bills- one showing the original cost and one showing the discounted cost. The original bill was $73 and the discounted was $25. I'm glad we didn't have to pay for this at full price.
