Creative, Simple and Stylish

Tillman's Roadhouse . 324 W 7th St, Dallas, TX 75208 . 214 942 0988

Have you seen that new magazine "Garden & Gun?" That's what Tillman's Roadhouse is. Except it's a restaurant with great food and not a magazine lol. I had tried the Trio of Fries there once before, but had never eaten a full meal. The chandeliers, heavy baroque chic damask curtains mingled with beautiful wood and large screen broadcasting black and white classics, makes for a visual feast. Then comes the service... very good. Then comes the food... excellent. We ordered the quesedillas for starters and they were fluffy and crispy with shreds of beef that melts in the mouth. My boyfriend ordered the Venison Frito Pie for his main meal and I ordered the Airplane Chicken for mine. His actually arrived with a bag of Frito chips and the meat was minced, the sauce and seasonings a bit salty, but very flavourful. The sauce was tomato-based and the whole dish went really really well together. Nothing was out of place in that dish. My roasted chicken sat over an onion-potato cake. The cake was delicious, a bit on the salty side, but the fried crispy part and the softer potato center made up for it. The chicken was crazy succulent! The only damper on this visit was the acoustics... I like loud places, but seemed like everyone talked louder and it echoed. We sat squeezed inbetween 2 young couples who were clearly newly dating and there was this "pressure" to keep up the conversation lol. But other than that, it was well worth it. One appetizer, two dishes and tax/tip later... $58.00. I will be trying the desserts next time.
