Danielita's Mexican Restaurant, Arlington . 1105 E Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington . (817) 274-1204
The moment of truth in any Mexican restaurant happens exactly when the salsa and chips arrive at the table. One look at the chips and I doubted how good they could be. After tasting, my doubts were right on. They tasted more like regular chips rather than homemade, which is unfortunate. The salsa, on the other hand, had a more pleasing effect on me because it had a spicy kick to it, and still maintained the other flavours to balance out the spice. It was neither too watery, nor too chunky. But it was overall, average. For our main dish, my friend ordered enchiladas verde and I ordered the beef chille relleno. The food arrived in good timing, but alas, tasted average. The chille relleno lacked any outstanding flavour. It just didn't pop. The bean soup I got with my dish was probably the saving grace. It had good flavour. The enchiladas were very basic; nothing out of the ordinary. The restaurant itself was toned down in terms of ambience, like the food. The dining room was large and furnished with casual beachwood tables and chairs. I did enjoy the service, nevertheless, which was timed well, and polite. Damages for two with tax and tip- under $20.
But wait, there's more.
On our way out, I noticed the tray of sweets at the register. The waitress confirmed they were made on site. I picked the milk toffee topped with pecans. I took a bite and stood still. Very still. I was taken back to my childhood- to the Indian toffee sweets our maid used to make. Danielita's milk toffee will melt in your mouth. Let me just say, I will drive 26 miles each way, just for this $1.25 treat.
And you thought this whole review would be gloomy!
I am very sad to report that after eating half of the sweet, I put it on the counter (still in the wrapping of course) but fire ants still found their way in. In one hour, they had completely covered it. I thought I should report that they enjoyed it as much as we did. Also, how sad for me. :-(
