We left early around 8:30AM Saturday and the drive was great... the scenery really did change after a certain point and it become obvious we were in what's called "hill country." We did the little exploring thing... drove through dirt roads, looked at tourist structures, looked at the views. It was wonderful! Thurber was not much... but there was some historic preservation. Remains of an old miner's house, a catholic church the immigrants used, a train car and such. We also drive through another small quaint town called "Gordon." I loved the old brick on the buildings. Each of these small towns had the basics- a feed and grocery store, a hardware store, doctor's office, and such. I asked some locals about a good BBQ place and they pointed us to Natty Flat Smokehouse. Let me just say, both of us being so fond of food, we loved it! I am not a big fan of BBQ but this was awesome! We both had chopped beef brisket sandwiches. The cookie and fudge brownie was also delicious. It was a tourist trap totally worth the hype. Below are some pics. I look forward to our next adventure :-)
